Back to Reality

We are in recovery mode having just returned from a 2 1/2 week visit to Lubbers Quarters Cay , Abaco. We had a relaxing time. Lubbers Quarters Cay is positioned just west of Elbow Cay surrounded by the Sea of Abaco. The small body of water between Lubbers Quarters Cay and Elbow Cay is referred to as Lubbers channel. Lubbers Quarters Cay is one of the few private residential cays which is surrounded by the Sea of Abaco with no direct exposure to the Atlantic. The lot we purchased for our planned vacation house is on Lubbers. We are located midway North to South on the cay, at an elevation of 60 feet above sea level. I'll make a post later about the decision-making process regarding waterfront versus hilltop/view location.
We filed our house plans in Marsh Harbour for the initial building permit with the help of Ryan Archer who is located in Marsh Harbour. We are planning a small single level home, so I am hoping that it will be a simple process. The plans will still have to be evaluated and approved by the Hopetown Council on Elbow Cay. But one step at a time for now.
We also visited the property tax office in Marsh Harbour regarding a billing issue with our property taxes on the lot we own. We met with Mr. Moss who was very helpful.
More photos to follow but here is wide-angle picture from one of our day trips to Pete's Pub in Little Harbour, Abaco. We traveled by boat from Lubbers to Little Harbour. The trip took about 30 minutes in windy conditions.
The gallery at Little Harbour is filled with lost wax technique bronze castings, jewelry, water color prints by the late Bob Zwickel, work by other artists and T-shirts. The cast bronze figures of marine life around Abaco are mated to natural local wood bases in many pieces. The cat in the photo appeared to be cast from silicon bronze and had a beautiful patina in subtle blue-green.
This is our favorite beach bar location ! Great food, friendly staff. Very relaxing and casual atmosphere. The house drink is the blaster and it lives up to it's moniker.

Hello all

This is a test post
I am beginning the process of planning and constructing a small vacation home in the Abacos. This blog will document that process.I have owned a lot on Lubbers Quarters Cay, located in the Sea of Abaco, Great Abaco, Bahamas for 4 years, I am now ready to move ahead with building on the lot. I know it is a more prudent financial move to buy an existing home.... but I have never been very good with money anyway!.

Cheers
Larry
